The 2014 ski season for Les Arcs provided 212 cm of snow, which is around 20 cm less than the year before. Plenty of the runs are high and lie at above 2000 metres which is excellent as the lifts enable you to stay at that altitude if you want to stick where the snow coverage is best. Generally the north-facing slopes have the best snow and overall, snowmaking in the resort is limited, but that doesn't generally pose much of a problem as the snowfall is considered reliable.
Arc 1800 is an excellent place to stay if you are with a mixed abilities group. Children and beginners are really well catered for as there are many wide, gentle, easy slopes as well as some free lifts for first timers. Arc 1800 is also a great place for intermediates as the blue and red runs at the resort are particularly fun.
If you are looking for lessons during your stay, there are many highly rated ski schools which have a variety of lessons available. Ecole du Ski Français, a well-known ski school across the whole of France, offers lessons for beginners, right through to advanced skiers. Not only do they offer ski lessons but also snowboard lessons, as well as a variety of different snowsports for you to choose from.
Another highly rated ski school is Spirit Ski School, who are 100% English speaking. The friendly company provides high quality lessons, all provided by qualified ski and snowboard instructors. You can also hire ski equipment through Spirit Ski and as an extra bonus they can offer you up to 45% off equipment rental.
Arc 1800 is a bit of a snowboarder’s paradise with some great pistes and epic freeriding opportunities. There is only one snowboarding park at the resort - Apocalypse Park - which has recently had lots of renovation work improving its overall balance of facilities for different levels of snowboarder.
If you’re looking for a party, Arc 1800 is the place to be. It is well known as one of the liveliest and most outgoing resorts out of all four in Les Arcs. There is a wide range of nightclubs to choose from including the beautifully designed Apokalypse Bar; known for its gargantuan dance floor and lively atmosphere. This popular night-time destination remains open throughout the winter season until 4am every morning.
If you are looking for more or a relaxed, family-friendly environment you're going to be spoilt for choice with various eateries on offer to suit every taste and budget. Le Savoy Restaurant is a particularly great choice for families with friendly service and famously delicious food. The large outdoor sun terrace is a real draw for visitors, providing an open and attractive area to enjoy the gorgeous food, afternoon sunshine and of course, the incredible view.
In such a chic and trendy resort, you'd be right to expect some similarly chic and trendy spa's to visit after a long, tiring day on the slopes.
One such spa is Nature Esthetique Beauty Salon, which is popular amongst visitors as they only use 100% organic and natural ingredients in all their tempting treatments. The beauty salon is owned by locals Catherine and Angelo who are qualified beauticians, physiotherapists and a biokineticists so you can feel completely assured they know exactly how to help you feel completely relaxed and revitalised. If that wasn't enough, the spa is open until 8.30pm at night, which means you can go and enjoy getting pampered and preened whenever suits you during the day.
For simply the best massages, Ski Massage is renowned in the area for personalised massage treatments that are individual to each client depending on their needs.
Naturally, Arc 1800 always has a jam-packed schedule of events - it simply wouldn't be one of the liveliest resorts in The Alps if this wasn't the case.
One of the most well-known events in the area is the Grand Prix of France Young Ski which takes place on the slopes of Arc 1800 at the end of February annually (dates change every year). Organised by a local skier, it gives younger skiers and opportunity to take part in what is a truly rewarding and often thrilling competition. The event is usually entered by over 400 ski-loving children and lasts over 4 days in various different competitions catering for all abilities.
